So, hows it all going?...
Ive been quietly monitoring things ROTG wise on US East, Northrend & The websites its on, so I thought i'd review what ive found..
Well firstly this is definatly the most widespread version of ROTG to date.
The official site:
This website is proving more successful than the other one averaging at least a few random downloads of the map a day, not too bad for a totally new concept for a map on an unknown domain.
Vistors are sporadic, but at least a few random non-search bot guests can be found looking at something through the day.
The lack of posted replays is fairly disappointing though.
YOU TUBE:
The 2nd movie trailer has hit 800 odd views on you-tube now, not too bad I suppose considering its not advertised on you-tube at all.
The orginal trailer has hit almost 4k views though so thats quite encouraging.
The Hive:
Much better results are viewable from the hive, Ive been watching ROTG climb the most downloaded ladder for weeks now, its come from obscurity to clock in almost 2k additional downloads.
Its now climbing the 2nd page (out of 220) under most downloaded and scored 5/5 from ratings and a directors cut review praising it.
Recently it overtook "Peppers multiplayer chess" in downloads.
Not too shabby as its now entered the range of maps that are ethier spin offs of established brand names (DBZ, C&C, Jurrassic park, dota etc)
Other sites:
On the other sites downloads have been slowly creeping up but nothing too dramatic.
US EAST:
Ah. the intresting bit.
Its progress on B.net itself.
Every day I login to east and have a ganders at the cg list, no it isnt full of rotg yet, in fact ive barely ever seen a game of it hosted!
Not good.
However, when I host games after theyve been up a few minutes people start joining, usually 3-4 of the joiners already have it, and usually someone says "Thanks for hosting, this map rocks/owns/is good/ it needs to be hosted more!" At least thats encouraging, but also frustrating as people wont host the damned thing!
Many people that have played it before ive never met, so it IS being hosted out there by folks.
That's nice.
Your average game tends to be:
1-2 guys that have played before/in the past,
2-3 guys that have it and aint tried it yet,
3-5 noobs =)
Most of the in-game comments are positive, and apart from the old "this hero sucks" comment from teh bad losers, feedback is great.
Im seeing better playing from players now, some that beat me now =S
In general, more pple than just total noobs play it now, and its starting to find its way into the hands of players with more ability, as opposed to random noobs looking for an rpg. Im seeing more ladder players try it, and their lethal within 5 minutes. =)
Generally, its come a long way, and at least theres a crowd out there now that know the map, and by all accounts, they love it.
What will the future hold?
Sod knows. I just keep hosting it.
